The Best Curly Hair Haircut
As a stylist, I’m always looking to invest in top notch educational opportunities to better serve my clientele. I had been searching for a curly hair haircut course and found the one I felt was most appropriate. Initially I began my search with Deva Curl. Up until about 1-2 years ago, they had an academy in Los Angeles. Literally, closed up shop and now only offer classes at the New York Academy. With limited class availability and repeated unreturned calls/emails, I looked elsewhere. A very dear friend, recommended I check out this new curly hair haircut. Rezocut…
What the heck is Rezocut? I secretly stalked Rezocut for about 6 months. Looking at Instagram pages, searching #rezocut, even watching YouTube videos posted by consumers. I was intrigued with all the before and after images, but only found little inside information. I could only assume what the Rezocut was all about. Based in New Jersey. Before and after, fabulous. Microfiber towels used. I decided to find a class and take the plunge.
I found myself in Miami, eager and ready to find out the Rezocut method. What was the big secret to achieving those juicy and delicious, bouncy curls???
Rezocut haircut provides Volume. Balance. and Shape. Since curly hair has many intricacies, moving parts, texture, the haircut is designed to promote the volume yet give balance and shape to the hair. I will admit that I’ve been guilty of giving a “flattening” curly haircut. You know the kind that ends up with dog ears and a flat back? Yeah, that one. Because curls are not embraced, there is a lack of education in appropriately servicing curly hair clientele which has continued to perpetuate the dog earred flat back look.
In addition to providing the best curly haircut, the transformation at the shampoo bowl with the right products, completed the package. With the Rezocut, if the hair is straightened, the hair will be even. I’ve been told that is one key difference from the Deva Curl cut…
The final curly haircut to discuss is the Ouidad cut. I hadn’t heard of Ouidad curly haircut until taking the Rezocut course. But here’s a bit of info from their website on the 5 Rules For Cutting Curly Hair.
The Ouidad Carve and Slice technique is done on wet hair. The advantage of cutting on damp hair instead of dry curls is that it allows the stylist to better understand your natural curl pattern and, in turn, give a more effective cut. Our experts agree that most curl types should be cut on an angle. For tight curls, uneven layering works best. Make certain your cut doesn’t flatten your crown. To avoid a flat top, try a short layer under a longer layer to pump up the volume.
I can’t speak to this curly haircut. I haven’t taken their training. However, the Rezocut founder, Nubia Suarez with 40+ years behind the chair, was trained in both Ouidad and Deva Curl before creating the Rezocut.
So, in my opinion the Rezocut is the best curly hair haircut. (Not to say the others are bad.) I feel Nubia has married both cuts and created a wonderful, life-changing educational platform, which helps to transform the curly community. By listening and understanding the curly client’s needs/desires/wants and delivering on those expectations, creates an uplifting and fulfilling result.
I’m so glad I joined the Rezocut community and hope to help transform the curly hair industry.
